Gateway 1

Gateway 1 is the south-eastern entry point to the business district and encompasses the area at the roundabout that forms the junction of Gatwick Road and Manor Royal road.
The intention was to make a more attractive and welcoming point of entry and a more impressive sense of arrival.
The project was completed in a series of phases that included new landscaping of the roundabout and introducing kerb hardening and chevron paving to manage over-runs by heavy vehicles.
Later, in partnership with West Sussex County Council, the footbridge was re-designed to include refurbishment, a new sign across the south facing face and colour trims on the steps to depict the transition from the green zone 4 to red zone 3.
In March 2019, as part of the Crawley Growth Programme and managed by the Manor Royal BID, improvements to the wider Bank Precinct area included new trees and landscaping, corten steel planters at the roundabout, new public art and formalised car parking in front of the Bank Precinct.

“Think it. Make it. Move it” and “Green it”
These corten steel messages can be found underneath the pedestrian footbridge and reflect the sorts of varied activities that go on in Manor Royal. The “Green It” sculpture in the landscaped area to the front of the Bank Precinct is a nod to the importance of the green and natural assets of Manor Royal.

Gateway 1 is the busiest point of entry to the Manor Royal Business District. The Bank Precinct on the eastern side of the pedestrian footbridge takes its name from the bank that used to be there when Manor Royal was first built.
