James Watt Way Park Micro Park (coming soon)

  • The concept proposes the creation of a small pocket park with seating areas positioned to take advantage of the rural views along James Watt Way. It also includes the enhancement of grassland to promote biodiversity, and the installation of a sculptural feature made up of gabions and biowalls.

  • This area is in the most northerly part of the Manor Royal Business District. It is near to Gateway 4 in Zone 5 (Purple). The area is relatively small space on the north side of James Watt Way opposite the snack wagon.

  • Consistent with the inspiration for the nearby Gateway 4, which this micropark forms part of, the scheme is based on the concept of “The Memory Line” where the gabion feature that dissects the area suggests the boundaries and hedgerows of the farmers fields of old before the creation of Manor Royal as a business district while mirroring those that can still be seen to the north in the undeveloped area between Manor Royal and Gatwick Airport.

    This line of structures visually connects the pocket park to the nearby roundabout, establishing a coherent and engaging public space that blends ecological function with aesthetic value
